- The CJ500 vehicle restores the permeability of asphalt paving -
Over years of road traffic dirt builds up and blocks the cavities in asphalt, reducing the drainage properties. The CJ500 series of Permeable-Paving Function-Recovery Vehicles was developed to remove and recover dirt from the cavities and to restore the drainage function of asphalt paving. The schematics below show the design of the equipment used for cleaning and restoring the permeability of paving.Using an integrated system of high pressure water jets directed from the front and rear of the vehicle, the central cavitation cleaning mechanism, and powerful high capacity blower-suction and high vacuum suction devices, the CJ500 is highly effective in cleaning and irrigating the cavities.Further, the soiled water recovered from the cleaning process passes through various filtration devices to recycle the water for cleaning.

Recently this CJ500 is not only used for cleaning paving drainage, but also for all conceivable cleaning purposes, from restoring the function of permeable paving to general road surface cleaning and sprinkling. As an example, we introduce one project to restore the properties of permeable asphalt as part of the current policy of Tokyo Metropolitan government. The operation is restoration of permeable asphalt paving of a road with an asphalt 20cm thick that has been in continuous used for 4-7 years. This is the first time to attempt the cleaning of asphalt thicker than 5cm. The results of the operation proved successful, tests before cleaning showed the paving to be almost completely impermeable, but after cleaning the permeable paving was restored to good as new. This permeable paving is not only being used on expressways and motorways, but is increasingly being used on urban roads such as on this particular road in a residential area, consequently the CJ500 will see greater service in the future.

Museum of Working Vehicles Opens!
On Sept 9 last year the Museum of Working Vehicles opened in Ina City, Nagano, fulfilling long kept dreams. Museum Director Mr Tsuchida commemorated the opening of the museum on his 38th birthday. The museum, Mr Tsuchida’s lifelong dream, consisting of a ground floor and basement with a total floor space of 130 square meters, was designed by himself. The whole atmosphere had the feeling of a man’s den.
We visited the museum guided by Mr Tsuchida and …………. On display on the ground floor are 20,000 miniature construction vehicles which Mr Tsuchida has collected over the past 30 years.

Among the miniature models, making use of every small space, was a Sakai corner of twenty carefully arranged exhibits from dearly missed rollers of the past and rammers which never reached the market (1:50 scale), to the most modern road cutters. Standing out was a 1/40 scale WH180 3 axel road roller (Photograph 3). This is the “last work piece” by the world renowned Hirokazu Hayakawa of Hayakawa Mokei Co. Ltd and donated to Mr Tsuchida. He spoke enthusiastically about the crème de la crème of precision models. This particular model apparently took 4,000 hours to complete. A taste of man’s true fantasy.  Further, in the basement are construction equipment maker catalogues from every country in the world, all carefully organized and shelved. They probably included all regular editions and special revised editions from almost every construction equipment maker worldwide.
In what is surely the den of the “king of lifetime collectors” one forgets the passage of time and floats away into an emphatic euphoria.
